People planning their holidays may be interested to learn that a new chip and pin card is being launched to protect consumers against fraud and theft.
The Travel Money Card from Tesco can be pre-loaded with money to be used on holiday but reduces the risk of fraud associated with other cards because it is not linked to a bank account.
According to the company, nine per cent of British holidaymakers have had their wallets or purses stolen overseas, while nearly a quarter (23.8 per cent) of those aged 18 and under have been the victims of thieves.
Yvonne Byrne of Tesco Personal Finance said the company wanted to provide consumers with a "smart, safe way to access funds" while on holiday.
The Co-operative Bank recently reported that despite the current economic climate, 53 per cent of people said they would not be reducing the amount they spend on holidays this year.
Of those surveyed, 77 per cent said they would be paying for at least part of their holiday with their credit cards.
