Total net lending to individuals rose during November 2007 to £8.9 billion, according to new figures.
A report from the Bank of England revealed that net credit card lending increased by £0.3 billion for the month, more than in October.
Other unsecured loans, however, rose by a smaller amount in November than the month previously, increasing just £0.8 billion.
Secured loans for property rose £7.8 billion, but the annual growth rate dropped to 10.2 per cent. The total number of loans approved for house purchase fell to 83,000.
A separate report from the Bank recently forecast a decline in availability of mortgages as the recent credit crunch sees "lenders reducing their risk appetite, and targeting a slightly lower market share".
The total UK personal debt at the end of October last year stood at £1,391 billion, with consumer credit such as personal loans and credit cards accounting for £222 billion.
