Finance News:

It is 'crucial' to research new car purchases

Consumers should do their research before making a new car purchase.

That is according to esure, which maintained that motorists could be dispensing much more money than is necessary on their new car.

Recent research conducted by the insurance company indicated that people were overspending when buying, insuring and financing a car.

It was discovered that only 65 per cent of UK consumers would attempt to negotiate the price of a new car, even though bargaining could result in significant savings.

In addition, a mere 46 per cent of people said that they would seek a quote from their insurer before buying a new car.

Commenting on the findings, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting for esure, said: "We're known for being a nation of bargain hunters and are always out to get the best deal - but when it comes to buying a new car so many motorists are failing to put the theory into practice.

He added that it was "crucial" for all motorists planning on buying the new '08' number plate, which hits the streets in one week's time, to shop around.
