Many people in the UK will be looking into home loans and other financial measures to prepare for the onset of winter.
According to NFU Mutual, homeowners ought to start getting on with maintenance and repairs to their property before the extreme weather sets in.
"We had severe storms in January, heavy snow in February, followed by a warm and sunny Easter and then rain and floods all summer," said Laura Wood from NFU Mutual. "What this winter will hold is anyone's guess."
The report advised Britons to check that their gutters are free from obstruction and that chimneys are not in need of repair.
It also recommended that chimneys and wood burning stoves are in good working order and that garden furniture is stored for the winter.
Jonathan French, assistant director of media relations at the Association of British Insurers, said recently that homeowners can find that "good quality locks on their doors and windows" can help to reduce premiums.
