Home improvements can help make your property more desirable when it comes to selling up.
That is according to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), which affirmed that newly refurbished kitchens and bathrooms were a "good selling point".
Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the FMB, said that increased mortgage rates and energy bills have discouraged some people from spending money of refurbishments.
Those who could afford to carry out home improvements would see the benefits when they sold their property.
He said: "If you spend about £5,000 - £7,000 you will get more than your money back because a lot of people that are buying in a falling housing market will not want to be investing more money."
Due to the competitive nature of the market, a property with modern features would be much easier to sell, he added.
"It will be the up to date kitchen or bathroom that will help complete the sale over other houses that will need further money being spent on them."
According to the FMB, there are signs of a downturn in housing work enquiries.
