The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and Nationwide have joined forces to provide free financial advice to those struggling with debt.
Nationwide will give £3 million to the three-year partnership, which will be used to recruit and train 1,300 new volunteers.
The advisors will provide financial support and education on money matters across Britain.
Director for corporate affairs at Nationwide Maxine Taylor says: "Our new partnership with CAB will fit excellently with our existing financial capability programmes."
Meanwhile, chief executive of the CAB David Harker adds: "Debt problems continue to be the number one issue seen in bureau."
The CAB dealt with 1.7 million debt cases in England, Wales and Northern Ireland last year around 6,500 cases for every working day.
Recent research by the Financial Services Authority shows that the number of new cases of people falling into arrears with their mortgage repayments has remained constant at around 54,000 per quarter since early 2007.
