Britons 'lie about loans'

People in Britain lie to their partners about loans and other financial matters, according to a new report, rather than admit their money situation.

Research carried out by Cater Allen found that 30 per cent of people have a money-related secret their other half doesn't know about.

Some 27 per cent of women have lied to their partner about how much clothing cost, while 28 per cent of men have fibbed about the price of a gadget.

A total of 44 per cent of people have lied to a partner about the cost of a purchase, the study revealed.

"While it has traditionally been considered bad manners to talk about money, this research shows that modern Britons are not comfortable with being upfront about their financial affairs too," said Richard Dunn from the bank.

A recent study from Fool indicated that 16 per cent of Britons have lied about their financial situation and 12 per cent don't open bank statements and face up to their debt.
