Alliance & Leicester has expanded its internet banking operation to give customers access to their finances through their mobile phone.
Customers who have a current account with the bank will be able to keep track of their cash whilst on the move, with the help of Alliance & Leicester's new Text Alerts service.
The decision to move into mobile banking was taken after Alliance & Leicester discovered that a quarter of British adults admit they pay no attention to budgeting and have little time to keep track of their finances.
Alliance & Leicester's Text Alert service will notify customers when their finances reach certain levels so they know when large payments have been made to or taken out of their account.
Ian Tandy, director of e-commerce at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Today's modern lifestyle is fast-paced, and it seems that no-one goes anywhere or does anything without their mobile phone."
The service is free until October 1st, after which it will cost users £1.50 a month.
According to Bank Systems & Technology, Britain's top banks have begun charging for mobile text services.
